New beginnings... maybe?

Tonight an old friend of mine started talking to me again. We had stopped being friends 5 years ago under not so great circumstances. I am hoping we can start being friends again under new circumstances. We are both older and a little bit wiser I hope... so maybe we can make it work. Right now I am just going to wait it out and see where the current leads with this.

On another note... I made blackberry pie yesterday and the crust turned out great! I think last time it was a cold water/hand thing. Both top crust and bottom rolled out great and I put them in the pie plate great! Made circles on the top for the venting... that's my favorite part about making the pie... the design in the crust. Sometimes I put "I love Paul" on it, other times just hearts, and yesterday circles.... what should I try next time?

Friday I made bread... my friend Susan's recipe again. This time I added Flax, Oat Bran and Wheat Germ to it. I really want to try to make a sweet grain bread... not sure how Costco does it, but their 9 grain bread is awesome! I should try to figure out which grains they use and add those to my bread. The bread turned out great as it did before. Found a new bread pan the other day at Goodwill, it is a pyrex glass rose colored dish, I got it for $2.00. :) Now I have three bread pans. Two are the same size now and that makes me happy. They are both a little bit longer than my original bread pan. I used to wonder why I needed a bread pan at all, and now I am glad that I have three. I might make dinner rolls tomorrow... not sure though.

I need to really start using my CSA box of veggies better. Sometimes I forget about them... and they go to rot. I was thinking about something my friend Susan has blogged about before, not sure if she still does this. But the idea was at the beginning of the week to write down on a white board or pad of paper by the fridge the different ingredients you have that are fresh so that when you go to make food during the week you can be reminded of those and of meal ideas you had with them. I think I need to do something like this. I often forget about my fresh veggies and fruits too! Boxed foods are my favorite, too bad they aren't healthier!

My cousin and his wife had their baby girl this past week. Elora is her name, she was 7 pounds 4 ounces. She really is darling. I am still working on a quilt for them... hopefully I will finish it this week if I don't get too distracted.

Anyways it's about time for work, gotta do my farm on Farmville and then head to bed. Darn facebook games of addictiveness!

Because of the very-hot ride in the moving van, we were lucky to take possession of much of the contents of Katie & Nathan's pantry. We could bring the food here in an air-conditioned vehicle so that it wouldn't spoil, but they couldn't get it to Texas. Thing is, Katie has LOTS of canned goods, and I seldom think to use food out of a can. So I'm trying to adjust my brain from fresh to canned right now. No matter which way you're going, it's hard to change the habits.

That is true Susan. I have now cleaned out my fridge cause so many things went bad... and I feel bad about throwing away veggies... well not too bad since they had gotten to the point of ick and squishy. I just feel bad I didn't remember to use them. At least with Canned goods they can sit there for awhile until you are ready to use them.
